The Nainital Zoo timing is from 10 A.M. to 4.30 P.M. every day of the week except for Mondays. The Nainital Zoo is closed on Mondays and also on National Holidays like Republic Day, Independence Day, Holi, Diwali, etc.

Tickets And Entry Fees For Nainital Zoo

The Nainital Zoo ticket price varies from adults to children. The entry fees for Nainital Zoo are-

  • Adults(above 12 years)- INR 100
  • Children(5-12 years)- INR 50
  • Foreigner Adults(above 12 years)- INR 200
  • Foreigner Children(5-12 years)- INR 100

There is free entry for senior citizens and children below the age of 5. If you want to take a camera with you at the Zoo it costs an additional INR 25 above the ticket fees. The authorities also provide options to do professional photography at the Nainital Zoo, however, that costs an extra INR 200 above the entry fees.

The Nainital Zoo is located at a distance of 2 Kilometers from the Tallital Bus Stand on a hill called ‘Sher Ka Danda’ by the locals in Nainital.

The nearest Railway Station from Nainital is Kathgodam Railway Station, located at a distance of 36 Kilometers. From Kathgodam you have to travel by road, you can either hire a taxi or travel by public transport to reach Nainital.

The nearest Airport from Nainital is Pantnagar Airport, located at a distance of 56 Kilometers. From Pantnagar you have to travel by road, you can either hire a taxi or travel by public transport to reach Nainital.

From the Tallital Bus Stand, the Nainital Zoo is located at a distance of 2 Kilometers which could be traveled by Sharing Jeep which costs INR 30 per person from the Mall Road. Private vehicles are prohibited in Nainital Zoo. Some people also prefer to trek to the Nainital Zoo while enjoying the scenic beauty of Nainital. Or go by the Zoo shuttle service which runs from the Tallital boat stand and Mallital in front of SBI.

What Is The History Of Nainital Zoo?

The concept of preserving biodiversity and protecting endangered species of plants and animals came to Nainital in the year 1972. In 1974 a suitable biosphere was reserved in Nainital for the protection of endangered flora and fauna.

The Nainital Zoo was established in 1984 and was opened to the general public on June 1st, 1995. The Zoo was home to India’s only Siberian Tiger from the year 2001 to 2011. The Siberian Tiger was rescued from Darjeeling. The official Nainital Zoo name is G.B. Pant High Altitude Zoo, Nainital.

The Bharat Ratna Pt. G.B. Pant High Altitude Management Society is responsible for the management work of the Nainital Zoo from March 2022.
